Restoring a tooth that’s been damaged or compromised is vital to your oral health, and with today’s lifelike restorations, the end-result is often more natural and attractive than patients expect. However, in many instances, completing a restorative treatment can take multiple visits over several weeks, most of which is required for a skilled technician to craft your restoration. At our Upton, MA, office, we can help streamline your restorative treatment by utilizing our advanced CEREC technology. Combining digital imaging and design with on-site 3D printing technology, CEREC allows us to plan, design, and place your custom, lifelike restoration, all during a single visit.
What is CEREC same-day restoration?
CEREC stands for chairside economic restoration of esthetic ceramics, and the system is based on advanced computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology. Known as same-day restoration, the technique involves capturing highly detailed digital images and measurements of your teeth and oral structures to determine the optimal dimensions of your dental crown or restoration. The digital images and measurements are transmitted to a digital milling station located in our office, which crafts your restoration from a block of custom-tinted dental porcelain.
What are the benefits of a same-day restoration?
The digital process utilized to design and create your restoration offers several important benefits for your oral health and treatment. The most notable advantage is the fact that you don’t have to wait for several weeks to fully restore your smile. However, other benefits include:
- No need for a temporary restoration
- Fewer visits overall to your dentist’s office
- Greater involvement in the design of your restoration
- More comfortable planning and design (with no physical molds)
- And much more
Do I qualify for a CEREC restoration?
The good news is that most patients who qualify for a dental crown or other restoration may qualify for CEREC. During your consultation and examination, we’ll carefully inspect the health of your remaining natural tooth structure, the condition of the surrounding gums and oral tissues (to ensure gum disease isn’t present), and more. If another issue is present in addition to your compromised tooth, then we incorporate a CEREC restoration as part of a more comprehensive treatment plan.
