If you have stained teeth, you seek out teeth whitening. But what if your teeth are also damaged, or there are unsightly gaps between them? For patients with multiple cosmetic concerns, we may suggest a single restoration to completely transform their smiles. What cosmetic issues can veneers correct?
Improving Your Smile’s Beauty
The completed restoration covers the front and sides of your tooth, allowing us to completely alter your smile’s appearance. We’ve used them to repair minor damage and reshape malformed teeth. They can mask permanent teeth stains, which would not otherwise respond to teeth whitening. We can also close gaps between the teeth and correct the appearance of minor misalignment.
Creating and Placing Dental Veneers
We begin by preparing the tooth. We remove a thin layer of enamel and then take detailed impressions. The patient goes home and the impressions are sent to a dental lab, where an expert ceramist will craft the veneers from porcelain. Once complete, the patient returns to the office. We will check the fit and then place the restoration with a powerful bonding agent. In as little as two visits, you can enjoy a much more attractive smile.
Keeping them Bright
We select porcelain for a number of reasons, including the material’s strength and translucent appearance (which mimics natural tooth enamel). Porcelain even contains stain-resistant properties. However, to keep them bright you still need to care for your smile. We recommend brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing before going to bed each night. You should also find time every six months for a through dental cleaning. Finally, try cutting back on beverages with dark pigments, or foods high in sugar and starch. These items can promote plaque buildup, which makes stains more apparent (and of course, increases the risk of tooth decay and gum disease).
